Congress MP Rahul Gandhi clarified on Wednesday (18 October) that he did not inquire about Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar's meetings with industrialist Gautam Adani.

He emphasised that Sharad Pawar is not the prime minister of India and, thus, is not accountable in the same manner.

Rahul Gandhi made these comments during a press conference, where he accused PM Modi of shielding Adani based on a report by Financial Times.

The report alleged that Adani buys coal from Indonesia, and its price doubles upon arrival in India.

Rahul Gandhi insisted that PM Modi should address the issue concerning Adani to maintain his image.

Referring to the Financial Times report, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Adani profited by Rs 12,000 crore from the public through overinvoicing in coal imports.

He questioned why the Prime Minister has not addressed this matter and alleged that such protection for Adani would not be possible without the highest levels of government involvement.

Rahul Gandhi further noted that many other countries are investigating Adani, contrasting India's approach of providing unfettered support to Adani.

He called for an investigation to defend the Prime Minister's credibility, asserting that it is not a mere Adani issue but a case of theft involving Rs 32,000 crore.

When asked about a potential investigation if Congress comes to power in 2024, he affirmed that anyone involved in a Rs 32,000 crore theft should face a probe.
