An unidentified person allegedly threw a petrol bomb at the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Chennai on Thursday (10 February).
According to the reports, the incident took place at around 1.30 am on Thursday.
"A petrol bomb was hurled at our office around 1:30 am. Similar incident took place 15 years ago with DMK's role in it. We condemn Tamil Nadu govt's (role) for this incident...We have also informed Police...BJP cadre doesn't get afraid of such things," BJP functionary Karate Thyagarajan was quoted by ANI as saying.
BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai has demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the incident.
He said that the law and order situation has been deteriorating in Tamil Nadu.
"NIA is the only solution to this incident where truth and conspiracy will come out," BJP chief K Annamalai said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader CTR Nirmal Kumar said that the law and order situation in the state has went "upside down" in 10 months, refering to the time since DMK came to the power in the state.
No injury has been reported so far in the attack as it took place very early in the morning.
A police complaint has been lodged by the party regarding the attack.
The police have reportedly begun the investigation and were reported to be checking CCTV footage from the area to trace the accused.
It should be noted that the BJP office in Chennai was earlier attacked in 2007.
