Indian security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), resulting in the elimination of two terrorists, a defence spokesperson said on Sunday (22 October).

The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs from agencies and the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), which indicated the likelihood of heavily armed terrorists attempting to cross over from across the LoC into the Uri sector.

In response, troops were placed on high alert, and the counter-infiltration grid was reinforced.

Taking advantage of adverse weather conditions characterised by heavy rainfall and poor visibility, a group of armed terrorists made an attempt to infiltrate across the LoC.

The defence spokesperson reported that at around 3 pm on Saturday, alert troops intercepted the group, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. The intense firefight continued until darkness fell, ultimately resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists.

The spokesperson confirmed that the remaining terrorists retreated to the enemy side of the LoC, carrying the bodies of their deceased terrorists with them.

The area remained under continuous surveillance throughout the night.

On Sunday (22 October), a comprehensive search of the encounter site was conducted, leading to a recovery of a cache of war-like equipment.

This included two AK series rifles, six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets, and two bags stained with blood, which contained both Pakistani and Indian currency notes, Pakistani medicines, and food items.

The presence of the blood-stained bags suggested that at least two terrorists had been seriously wounded during the operation, prompting them to abandon their supplies and escape across the LoC.

Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the search operation was temporarily suspended and will resume when the weather clears.
