Madhya Pradesh assembly constituency map highlighting Nagda
After Ashok Gehlot, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also played the 'district card' in the election year as he announced the formation of a new district- Nagda on Thursday (20 July).
While addressing a gathering during a road show in Nagda, an industrial town, Chouhan announced that the formalities to initiate the process of creating a new district from Ujjain will commence without delay.
Presently, Nagda is a tehsil in Ujjain district.
A community health centre in Unhel, which would be made a part of Nagda district and the opening of a CM Rise school in Nagda were among the other announcements made for the town.
Previously, on 4 March this year, Chouhan had officially declared Mauganj in Rewa, located in the state's Vindh region, as the 53rd district.
As of now, Madhya Pradesh has 52 districts, and with the completion of the district-formation formalities for Mauganj and Nagda, the total number of districts will increase to 54.
Notably, Rajasthan CM Gehlot had also announced in March, the formation of 19 new districts taking the district count in the state from 33 to 50.
Assembly elections in both states, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are due in November this year.
