In a fresh example of anti-Brahminism by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) supporters, Dr Aravind Raja, who describes himself as a CEO and a brain specialist, posted pictures of singer Sivasri Skandaprasad in Western clothes on X (formerly Twitter), with the caption "தட் பாப்பார... சாரி சாரி.. பாரத பாரம்பரிய மாமி", which in English is, "That Brahmin woman...sorry sorry...see Indian traditional mami."
Sivasri is passionate about Namasankeerthanam, Katha Kutcheri and Sampradhaya Bhajans. She is also a Bharatanatyam dancer.
Her father Seerkazhi Sri J. Skandaprasad is a renowned Mridangam Vidwan.
The word 'Mami' is often used by Dravidian politicians to refer to Tamil Brahmin women in a derogatory manner.
Earlier this year, during the party's hunger strike against NEET, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran had used the casteist jibe while speaking about Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had sent 'Nirmala Mami' to Tamil Nadu to come to power in the state with the help of "slaves" (a reference to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), after the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
However, after saying 'Nirmala Mami', he said 'Ok Nirmala Sitharaman' and when someone said the reason why he had said 'Mami', Maran said that he had mentioned it unintentionally.
