TN: Detention Of 6 Farmers Under Goondas Act Revoked By DMK Govt On CM Stalin's Orders; BJP Had Announced Protest On 18 November

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government today (17 November) revoked the detention of six farmers belonging to the Tiruvannamalai district under the Goondas Act.
The farmers had protested for over a 100 days against the acquisition of agricultural land for an industrial park by the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT).
Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had announced a protest against the detention in Tiruvannamalai on 18 November.
BJP state president K Annamalai welcomed the order but questioned the government over the number of farmers being released from detention.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he said that while the press release stated that the Goondas Act had been revoked against six farmers, earlier reports stated that seven farmers had been detained.
