Governor RN Ravi has returned a file regarding the appointment of chairman and members of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

The government had sought to appoint former Director General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu as the chairman. Sylendra Babu had retired on 30 June. It also proposed the name of eight others as members.

The chairman and members of the state public service commissions have a term of six years but can serve only till the age of 62.

According to a report by The Hindu, which cited official sources, Governor Ravi has sought clarifications on how were the names finalised, details of the public advertisement, number of applications and how were they scrutinised etc.

This comes after Chief Minister MK Stalin's son, Udhayanidhi Stalin during the hunger strike against NEET called Governor Ravi a 'postman', and criticised him for saying that if it were up to him, he would not give approval to the Bill exempting the state.

While Governor Ravi has returned the file for TNPSC appointments, he has appointed the chairman and four members of the Tamil Nadu Online Gaming Authority. The body has been constituted under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2022.

A retired IAS officer Md Nasimuddin has been appointed as the chairman. The members who have been appointed are C Chellappan, a retired professor from the College of Engineering in Guindy, O Raveendran, a retired clinical psychologist from Sri Ramachandra Medical College in Chennai, MC Sarangan (retired IPS officer) and Vijay Karunakaran, the founder and CEO of In-Gage Group.
