IIT Madras, Other Top Engineering Institutes Sign Pact With BIS To Introduce Indian Standards As Part Of Curriculum

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with top six engineering institutes of India for introducing Indian standards as an integral part of the curriculum.

The MoU was signed with Indian Institute of Technology BHU (IIT-BHU), Varanasi, Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur, IIT Indore, IIT Patna, IIT Madras and NIT Trichy on Monday (28 November) for establishment of ‘BIS Standardization Chair Professor’ at these institutes.

The establishment will promote excellence and leadership in teaching and research and development in the field of science and various disciplines in the respective institutes, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday (30 November).

During the signing of the pact, BIS director general Pramod Kumar Tiwari said that the MoU between the premium academic institutes and BIS would strengthen and enhance the standards formulation activity by facilitating research and development projects, encouraging involvement of young minds in the area of standardisation process and jointly organising seminars, conferences, workshops symposia or lectures, training and short-term education programmes.

He also emphasised on the need to engage with startups and incubation centres at academic Institutions in formulation new standards and compliance with the existing.
