State-owned telecom service provider BSNL has awarded a Rs 15,000 crore order for deployment of its 4G network across India to a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

"The consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services Limited has received an Advance Purchase Order valued over Rs 15,000 crore from BSNL, a 100 per cent Govt. of India owned Public Sector Undertaking, for the deployment of a 4G network across India," TCS said in a regulatory filing on Monday (22 May).

BSNL had floated tender on 22 October last year for 1 lakh 4G sites. The bid was opened on 23 November 2022, and after the conclusion of bid evaluation, it was submitted for approval of Group of Ministers (GoM).

The BSNL 4G services will be started all over India within 18-24 months after placing the purchase order, Union Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had informed the Parliament in March this year.

The government has also reserved spectrum in the 600 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands for BSNL for providing 5G services, which would be provided after roll out of 4G services all over India.
