Assam’s Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary formally launched the Association of the Robotic and Innovative Surgeons (ARIS) in Guwahati on Saturday (30 April).

ARIS is the first-ever Indian Robotic Surgeon’s Association, The Economic Times reports.

The association maintains that robotic surgery is futuristic and that the modern developments made in equipment and surgical techniques have popularised minimally invasive surgery.

“This is one another proud moment for all of us and very pleased to know Dr. Khanna is the founding president and knowing him for many years, we are sure he will take this Association and the Robotic science to greater heights, ultimately improving the quality of care to our people,” Patowary was quoted in a report by the aforementioned publication.

ARIS further added that robotics-assisted surgery has attained acceptance globally as several institutions are making investments in medical robotic technology for applications in urological, gynaecological and neurological amongst different forms of surgery.

Reportedly, this technology can turn out to be cost-effective and more outcome-oriented in the long-term as compared to the conventional approaches
