Amitabh Kant, CEO of the NITI Aayog
NITI Aayog wants to be the Game Changer in India’s Growth Story: Here is how
In an interview with Swarajya, CEO of the NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant outlined his plans. Unlike the Planning Commission that it replaced, the NITI Aayog has a 15 year Vision Document in Place. The PM reviews progress of ministries and relies on the NITI Aayog’s presentations.
It has taken up Roads, Education, Health and Railways for monitoring as a first step. In Roads alone, it monitors various parameters such as bypasses, tolls, time taken at checkposts, congested spots, etc.
Earlier, the Ministry of Statistics made reports, but they were delayed and were not detailed enough. This is the 1st time for such detailed outcome-based monitoring in the government. After the review by the Prime Minister, Dashboards are created, which are monitored on a monthly basis. Over time, funds from the finance ministry could be linked to outcomes on performance.
It also serves as a Think Tank, getting international experts help solve the nation’s problems.
Kant believes that Niti Aayog will be the major change agent for driving India’s growth.
We hope he succeeds.
