Nepal To Export 10,000 MW Of Electricity To India In 10 Years As Two Nations Sign Deal During Jaishankar's Visit

During a two-day visit by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to Nepal, the two nations signed a long-term agreement facilitating the export of 10,000 MW of electricity to India over the next decade as reported by The New Indian Express.
The power export agreement was signed in a bilateral meeting attended by Jaishankar and Nepalese Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet.
The bilateral agreement, signed by Nepal's Energy Secretary Gopal Sigdel and his Indian counterpart Pankaj Agrawal, aims to export 10,000 MW of electricity from Nepal to India in the next 10 years.
This agreement builds upon the understanding reached during Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda's visit to India last year, where several significant pacts were signed, including the commitment to increase New Delhi's power import from Nepal to 10,000 MW within the next decade.
The region, endowed with multiple rivers originating in the Himalayas, will utilise these water resources for hydropower projects, strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
Jaishankar is set to meet with key political leaders during his visit to Nepal, including Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML chairman K P Sharma Oli. Earlier, he called on President Ramchandra Paudel and Prime Minister Prachanda.
