Two Pakistani policemen were killed while another four were injured after the local police headquarters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district came under attack on Friday (15 December) morning.
The assault on the town of Tank in Dera Ismail Khan occurred three days following an incident where a suicide bomber in the same area drove his car into the primary entrance of a police station. This was followed by five other militants initiating gunfire, resulting in the death of 23 officers.
This event marked the most severe attack on Pakistani troops this year.
Iftikhar Shah, the local police chief, said that two police officers were killed, and four others injured in the assault on the police headquarters that took place on Friday.
He also confirmed the death of two attackers involved in the incident. Shah further mentioned that a third militant was neutralized by the army during an attack on a nearby military post.
He further said that the terrorists fired shots and “used hand grenades”
The attack was claimed in a statement by a new militant group, Ansarul Jihad, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported.
