Following the vandalisation of the Indian High Commission in London, Prime Minister Narendra Modi adopted a strong stance on the security of Indian diplomatic establishments in the United Kingdom.
In a phone call with British counterpart Rishi Sunak, PM Modi called for strong action against anti-India elements.
A group of protesters waving Khalistani flags and shouting pro-Khalistan slogans caused a commotion by grabbing the Tricolour atop the Indian High Commission in London last month, leading to an arrest related to the resulting violent disorder.
Sunak, assured PM Modi that the recent attack on the Indian High Commission was "totally unacceptable" and reaffirmed the UK's commitment to ensuring the security of the Indian Mission and its personnel during their phone call regarding the incident.
PM Modi and UK PM Sunak also discussed about the bilateral progress in trade and economy.
"Modi and Sunak also reviewed the progress on a number of bilateral issues as part of the India-UK Roadmap 2030, particularly in trade and economic sectors.
"They expressed satisfaction at the recent high-level exchanges and growing cooperation, particularly in trade and economic sectors, and agreed on the need for early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement between the two countries," the official statement said.
In addition, PM Modi urged for progress on the extradition of economic offenders who are wanted in India, specifically mentioning Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, during his conversation with Sunak, as per the statement.
Modi also extended his wishes to Sunak and the Indian community in the UK on Baisakhi's eve, the statement said.
During their conversation, PM Modi extended an invitation to his UK counterpart to attend the upcoming G20 Summit in September, which was appreciated by Sunak.
The statement also mentioned that Sunak commended the progress made under India's Presidency of the G20 and reiterated the UK's unwavering support towards India's initiatives.
