Russia has offered to jointly produce the 100-seater Sukhoi Superjet airliner in India.
United Aircraft Corporation, the Russian aerospace major, has said that it is exploring the possibility of a joint production agreement for the Sukhoi Superjet airliner.
The project could involve localising and producing the aircraft in India with the assistance of Russian components. This could enable the production of a fully-fledged Indian aircraft for domestic and international markets.
UAC director general Yury Slyusar has exuded confidence that Russia and India can reach an agreement on the joint production of the 100-seater airliner.
"With the Sukhoi SuperJet aircraft project, we are considering the possibility of localization and production here [in India]. [We] already have experience of mass production here," General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation Yury Slyusar was quoted by Sputnik News as saying.
"The so-called import entity Sukhoi SuperJet... India can purchase units using this entity with our help, and, with the supply of our components, establish airframe production here and make a full-fledged Indian aircraft, delivering it to the domestic market and to the markets of friendly countries," Slyusar added.
Slyusar noted that there could be a demand for a 100-seat regional jet in India, and Russia is ready to offer support for its production.
The two countries are also reportedly in talks regarding Russian Il-114 and MC-21 airliners, with civil aviation identified as a promising area for collaboration between Russia and India.
