Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Nand Gopal Gupta on Tuesday (13 September) said that the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led state government is targeting exports worth Rs 3 lakh crore in the next three years.
The UP minister said that exports from the state have nearly doubled in the last five years.
Gupta holds portfolios of Export Promotion, Industrial Development, NRI, and Investment Promotion in the Yogi government.
Uttar Pradesh is currently the fifth largest exporter among states and Union Territories in India, said Gupta at the board of trade meeting in Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal.
Representatives of states and UTs participated in the meeting to discuss measures to enhance exports and manufacturing in the country.
''Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state of the country. The industries in the state have adequate raw material, human resource and market. Uttar Pradesh is fast moving towards becoming a USD one trillion economy under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,'' Gupta said, according to a statement from his office.
He said the export sector will have a special contribution towards UP achieving the goal of becoming USD one trillion economy.
''Under the leadership of CM Adityanath, the state's exports have increased by 77.27 per cent from Rs 88,000 crore to Rs 1.55 lakh crore in the last five years," Gupta said.
He added that this growth in exports is unprecedented and historic.
"Our government has set an export target of Rs 3 lakh crore in the next three years and we are moving ahead with a solid strategy to achieve this target,'' the minister said.
