Hindu leaders like Ashok Jain and Gopal Sharma have made claims that the idol of Goddess Saraswati had emerged within the disputed 12th Century old Bhojshala premises and that it was subsequently removed by the local administration and police.
Bhojshala is a revered site that has been a subject of contention between Hindus and Muslims. Situated in Dhar, roughly 250 km away from the state capital, it is regarded as one of the towns with communal sensitivities in Madhya Pradesh.
Recently, Unidentified individuals attempted to install an idol of Goddess Saraswati in the disputed 12th Century site in the communally sensitive town of Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.
The local police have confirmed that the structure is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Upon learning of this development, the police took immediate action. The idol, which had been left behind by the unidentified individuals, has been safely removed from Bhojshala.
Dr. Indrajeet Balkawar, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Dhar, stated, "The accused individuals cut through the metallic wired fencing at the rear and placed the stone idol inside the premises." A case has been registered against the unidentified individuals based on a complaint filed by ASI officials, under IPC Sections 452, 295, and 153-A.
The leaders have threatened to initiate agitation if the idol is not placed back inside the Bhojshala.
The Hindu community asserts the site's identity as a temple dedicated to Vagdevi, or Goddess Saraswati, while the Muslim community regards it as the Kamal Maula Mosque.
According to the guidelines set by the Archaeological Survey, Muslims can offer prayers at the Bhojshala every Friday and during Islamic festivals.
Similarly, Hindus are allowed to offer prayers at the Bhojshala premises every Tuesday and during the festival of Basant Panchami, which is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.
