Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have announced a strategic partnership to jointly bid for the Indian Air Force’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
The two companies will submit a response in the coming weeks to the Expression of Interest (EoI) issued by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the nodal agency for the AMCA project.
"Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has formed a strategic partnership with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to support Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme of the Indian Air Force," the company said in a statement.
The consortium will combine L&T’s expertise in designing and delivering large-scale defence and aerospace platforms with BEL’s strength in defence electronics and mission-critical systems.
The move is aimed at contributing to the indigenous fifth-generation fighter jet programme in line with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
L&T and BEL have earlier played a significant role in the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) project by delivering major aero-structure modules and advanced avionics.
The new partnership seeks to build on this track record while ensuring timely delivery of advanced solutions for India’s air combat requirements.
Commenting on the development, S N Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of L&T, said: “The collaboration with BEL marks a significant leap in our commitment to the modernisation of India's defence capabilities. We are honoured to be working with BEL to deliver next-generation technologies for the Indian Air Force. Both the organisations are leaders in our respective domains and our combined efforts will play a crucial role in bolstering national security and advancing self-reliance in defence technologies.”
BEL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Manoj Jain, said: “The AMCA project represents India’s growing capabilities in defence technology. Our collaboration with L&T is a crucial step in realising this vision. With L&T’s engineering and systems integration capabilities and BEL’s expertise in electronics, we are confident of making a meaningful contribution to this prestigious programme.”
The AMCA, a stealth multirole fighter with advanced avionics and supercruise capability, is envisioned as a cornerstone of the Indian Air Force’s future combat fleet.
