J&K: Security Forces Gun Down Terrorist In Pulwama Encounter; Search Operation Continues

An unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounter on Friday (1 December) with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A gun battle broke out at New Colony in Arihal area of the district on Thursday after security forces launched an anti-terrorist operation in the orchards there, the officials said.

One terrorist was shot dead as the operation continued.

Last week, two terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander trained in Afghanistan, and five soldiers including two Army captains were killed in a 36-hour-long gunfight with security forces in the Bajimaal area in Darmsal in Rajouri district.

The encounter broke out after joint forces of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Bajimaal area of the district.

Soldiers who lost their lives fighting terrorists were Captain M V Pranjal (63 RR) of Mangalore area of Karnataka, Captain Shubham Gupta (9 Para) of Agra of Uttar Pradesh, Havaldar Abdul Majid (Para) of Ajote in Poonch, J-K; Lance Naik Sanjay Bist of Halli Padli area of Nainital, UK and Paratrooper Sachin Laur of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
