Russia is in talks with India over production of the Pantsir-S1 and Tor-M2KM air defence systems and drones.
The Pantsir-S1 is a highly mobile short-range air defense system that is designed to provide protection against a variety of airborne threats, including aircraft, helicopters, drones, and missiles. It is equipped with 12 surface-to-air missiles and two 30 mm automatic cannons, which are capable of firing at the maximum rate of 2,500 rounds per minute per gun.
The Tor-M2KM is a modernised version of the Tor missile system, which is designed to engage a wide range of targets, including aircraft, helicopters, and precision-guided munitions. The system is equipped with a variety of sensors, including a 3D passive phased-array radar and electro-optical and infrared systems.
During the Aero-India 2023 exhibition in Bangalore, which was held form 13 to 17 February, Alexander Mikheyev, the head of Rosoboronexport, the Russian state intermediary agency for exports and imports of military products, revealed that Russia is in consultations with India for the production of the air defence systems and UAVs.
According to Mikheyev, Russia is conducting technical consultations with India on the production of the Pantsir-S1 and Tor-M2KM air defense systems, Boomerang infantry fighting vehicles and UAVs, Russian news agency TASS reported.
Further, Rosoboronexport is discussing with private Indian enterprises the "issue of modernising heavy military transport aircraft Il-76", the report said, adding that "Indian partners are interested in Russia’s upgraded military transport aircraft Il-76MD-90A".
