Eastern Railway Achieves 100 Per Cent Electrification Of Its 2,848 Km Network

In a positive development, the Eastern Railway has achieved 100 per cent electrification of its 2,848 km network with the completion of work in the Hansdiha-Godda section.
Hansdiha-Godda section has 41 km of track kilometres and 32 route kilometres.
Speed trial of the section was conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Security (CRS) on Thursday (26 May) at 103 km per hour while the sectional speed of this section is 90 km per hour.
The total route kilometres of Eastern Railway is 2,848 km spreading over Howrah, Sealdah, Asansol and Malda divisions wherein Howrah division consists of 889 route km, Sealdah consists 719 route km, Asansol consists of 690 route km and Malda consists of 550 route kilometres, reports The Statesman.
'With the successful completion of CRS (commissioner of railway safety) inspection of the Hansdiha-Godda section, Eastern Railway's entire 2,848 km network is converted to electrified route,' the Kolkata-headquartered zonal railway's spokesperson Ekalabya Chakraborty said.
The total electrification will help reduce carbon emission significantly and support the Indian Railway in achieving its target of making the country's railway network carbon neutral by 2030, he said.
