The 100th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) under PM GatiShakti was held today (17 October) to assess infrastructure proposals from various ministries, focusing on multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP).

Chaired by Pankaj Kumar, Joint Secretary, Logistics (DPIIT), the meeting evaluated five projects — two from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), two from the Ministry of Railways (MoR), and one from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) — to ensure conformity with the GatiShakti principles of integrated planning, last-mile connectivity, and inter-ministerial coordination.

Railway Projects

1. Quadrupling between Hosapete and Ballari (Karnataka)

A 65-km quadruple line has been proposed by the Rail Ministry between Hosapete and Ballari, one of Karnataka’s most industrialised and mineral-rich regions.

The corridor, crucial for iron ore, coal, steel, and cement transport, currently operates near capacity.

The expansion aims to decongest routes, enhance freight handling, and support economic growth in the Hosapete–Ballari belt, home to major steel and power industries.

2. Doubling from Gondia to Jabalpur (Maharashtra–Madhya Pradesh)

The 230.5-km Gondia–Jabalpur doubling project, proposed by Rail Ministry, will enhance a key eastern–central India rail link, traversing five districts: Gondia (Maharashtra), and Balaghat, Mandla, Seoni, and Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh).

The section, vital for coal, cement, and steel movement, often suffers from delays on its single line.

Doubling is expected to improve freight turnaround times, increase capacity, and strengthen regional trade and logistics connectivity.

Road and Highway Projects

3. Widening of Mahwa–Mandawar Section, NH-921 (Rajasthan)

MoRTH has proposed upgrading the 50.2-km Mahwa–Mandawar stretch of National Highway 921.

Once completed, the improved Mahwa–Mandawar stretch will serve as a key link between Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, and Haryana, offering seamless connectivity across state borders.

The enhanced highway will help reduce travel time, cut down on congestion, and improve road safety for commuters. For businesses and industries operating in the region, faster movement of goods will lower logistics costs, boost efficiency, and stimulate trade opportunities.

4. Six-Lane Elevated Road between Anisabad and Deedargunj (Bihar)

In Bihar, MoRTH has planned a 13.37-km six-lane elevated corridor with service roads between Anisabad and Deedargunj to address heavy urban congestion.

The design includes 4 light vehicular underpasses, 91 redesigned intersections, and 8 grade separators to streamline movement.

This corridor will improve safety, ease bottlenecks, and support regional commerce, connecting Patna’s economic zones with broader state and national networks.

Urban Transport Project

5. Jaipur Metro Phase 2: Prahladpura–Todi Mod Corridor (Rajasthan)

The 42.8-km Jaipur Metro Phase 2 project, proposed by MoHUA, will establish a North–South corridor with 36 stations (34 elevated, 2 underground), connecting Prahladpura to Todi Mod.

The alignment will link key hubs such as Sitapura Industrial Area, SMS Hospital, and Vidhyadhar Nagar, integrating with the existing East–West line at Chandpole.

Expected outcomes include reduced traffic congestion, lower fuel consumption, and decreased pollution, while promoting transit-oriented development (TOD) across Jaipur’s growth zones.
