Karnataka Government Signs MoU For Ecological Development Of Doddasaggere Botanical Garden In Tumakuru

LM Wind Power and United Way Bengaluru have partnered with the Government of Karnataka's Department of Horticulture to collaborate on the development of the Doddasaggere Botanical Garden located in Koratagere, Tumakuru.
K Nagendra Prasad, director of the horticulture department; M Jagadish, joint director of the department; Rajesh Lobo, senior plant director of LM Wind Power, Dabaspet; and Rajesh Krishnan, CEO, United Way of Bengaluru, were among those present at the signing, reports Deccan Herald.
“We are glad to partner with United Way Bengaluru and the Government of Karnataka in the afforestation and pond rejuvenation project focused on protecting and enhancing biodiversity in the area, improving water quality, and creating greater awareness about managing our natural resources responsibly, so that we leave a greener world for the next generations," said Lobo.

The renovated lake is expected to hold up to two crore litres of water and will have a bund and two loose boulder structures to facilitate desilting and prevent soil erosion.
Another element of the ecological development project is the creation of a thematic thorny forest, which will cover 4.5 acres of land and consist of 2,500 saplings of 17 varieties of thorny plants.
Krishnan said that the organisation has been implementing similar environmental interventions.
He added, “But we do not do this alone; we do it with the help of our stakeholders as we believe in mobilising the caring power of the communities towards achieving our goals”.
As per earlier reports, the Karnataka government has planned the development of a 184-acre park near Yelahanka in March, with the aim to increase green cover and open spaces for Bengaluru.
The proposed green cover imagined in the lines of the Cubbon Park will come up on land spread across the villages of Bettahalasur, Sondappanahalli and Kadiganahalli — outside the city’s municipal limits.
