L&T Unveils New Renewable Business Vertical To Meet Global Demand For Green Energy

In a move signalling intensifying competition in the renewable energy sector, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has launched a new business vertical dedicated to renewable Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), separating it from its Power Transmission & Distribution business under the Infrastructure Projects segment.

This strategic decision, effective from 1 September, aligns with the global momentum towards clean energy, driven by the urgent need for decarbonised electricity to combat climate change.

Creation of this vertical will give increased autonomy, customer proximity and leadership oversight to the business and enable us to excel in this space,” SN Subrahmanyan, Chairman & Managing Director – Larsen & Toubro said.

L&T has already established itself as a global leader in the renewable EPC sector, with a vast portfolio encompassing 22 gigawatt peak (GWp) of renewable projects.

The company’s expertise spans Ground Mounted Solar, Floating Solar, Wind Balance of Plant projects, and Battery Energy Storage Systems, with an aggregate capacity of 3 GWh. Coupled with L&T’s Grid and Digital Energy Solutions, the business is renowned for its ability to deliver large-scale renewable projects on time and with a strong emphasis on safety.

Globally, L&T is involved in some of the largest renewable energy projects.

In Saudi Arabia, L&T is a key player in major initiatives, including the 700 MW Ar Rass Solar PV IPP, the 2,000 MW Ar Rass-2 Solar PV IPP, and the 1.6 GW Sudair solar plant. The company recently announced two additional plants with a combined capacity of 3.5 gigawatt alternative current (GWac).

L&T is also constructing power and grid systems for one of the world’s largest green hydrogen plants at NEOM and advancing renewable infrastructure with a 250 MWp solar PV plant in the Amaala Project. In Dubai, L&T is executing Phase 6 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.

In India, L&T has delivered iconic renewable energy projects, including the recently commissioned 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar projects. The company also implemented India’s first grid-scale solar cum storage project and decentralised distributed generation packages for remote villages.

Beyond India and the Middle East, L&T is targeting adjacent regions, including SAARC, ASEAN, CIS, and African countries, where significant investments in renewable energy infrastructure are emerging.
