In a respite to vehicle owners not having High Security Registration Plates, the Road Transport Ministry has advised enforcement agencies not to penalise them if the state in which the vehicle is registered has not yet notified the authorised vendors for providing these number plates.
The advisory has been issued to avoid harassment of such vehicle owners in other states such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
As per the advisory, the Ministry has come to know that some states and UTs are yet to notify the authorised vendors for HSRP for their respective state.
"It is requested that the details of HSRP vendors notified by the respective states/ UT till date may please be submitted to the Ministry by 31 July 2023," it said.
There have been several instances of traffic and transport department officials slapping fines on vehicle owners for not having the HSRP.
According to the Ministry, after getting the status reports from states and UTs, the Transport Ministry would share the details with all law enforcement agencies to guide them. Currently, in the absence of such a centralised list, the local police and transport department officials impose fines on vehicle owners for not having HSRP.
