Tamil Nadu Government Did Not Submit Mandatory Reports: Centre On Pending Approvals For Coimbatore And Madurai Metro

The central government today (25 July) informed that the government of Tamil Nadu had not submitted the comprehensive mobility plan and alternative analysis reports along with the detailed project report (DPR) for the Coimbatore and Madurai metro train projects.
The information was provided in the form of an answer to an unstarred question asked by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Members of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Rani Srikumar seeking details about the status of their approval.
As per the metro rail policy released in 2017, these are mandatory requirements.
The lack of approval for these metro train projects and funding for the second phase of Chennai Metro were the issues raised strongly by the DMK while criticising the 2024 budget.
The central government's answer is thus a setback for the party, which was trying to portray the Centre as anti-Tamil Nadu for not giving the green light to these projects.
