The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government is planning to expedite the construction of a high-speed metro link between the upcoming Noida International Airport, or Jewar Airport, in Greater Noida and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

The state government is planning to start metro operations on the corridor before the commercial opening of the Jewar airport next year, Times of India reported citing officials.

Further, the number of stations on the proposed stretch may also be halved in a bid to expedite the construction.

A high-level meeting chaired by UP chief secretary D S Mishra, scheduled to take place in Lucknow on 14 June, is likely to take a decision on the total number of stations.

Senior officials from the civil aviation department (Centre and state), NCR Transport Corporation, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Noida International Airport Ltd, and the airport concessionaire Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd will be among those attending the meeting.

Initially, the plan was to have 11 stations on the entire corridor; seven stations between Noida International Airport and Knowledge Park II and four stations on the remaining stretch

Earlier in September last year, the YEIDA board had approved the detailed project report (DPR) for the first phase, a metro corridor from Noida International Airport to Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park II, to be built at a cost of over Rs 6,329 crore.

In the second phase, the Knowledge Park II in Greater Noida and the New Delhi metro station on the Airport Express Line will be connected by a 37-km metro line at an estimated cost of Rs 7,630 crore.

DMRC is preparing the DPR for the second phase and the report is likely to be ready by next month.
