As per a circular issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the educational institutes which seek to apply for a “deemed to be university” status would need to have an experience of at least 20 years, Indian Express has reported.
The institutes would also need to have a CGPA of 3.26 in three consecutive cycles accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA). The institute would also have to be ranked among the top 50 in the country in a specific category and under 100 in the overall National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF).
The student-teacher ratio in these institutes would also need to be 1:20 with no less than 100 teachers and 2,000 students. There also need to be five post-graduation departments and a three year research program.
The institute would also have to create a selection committee to ensure that the recommendation is followed. Well performing institutes would also be allowed to setup off-shore centres. The UGC would also be monitoring the academic outcomes of the institute on an annual basis.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
