Tamil actress Vijayalakshmi on Sunday (Jul 26) was hospitalized after an attempted suicide hours after she released a video on social media alleging that she felt mentally harassed over relentless online bullying by followers of Seeman-led Tamil nationalist political outfit Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) and leader of a fringe caste outlet Hari Nadar.
In March this year, Vijayalakshmi had submitted a petition at the office of police Commissioner seeking action against NTK leader Seeman and his party cadre for criticising her in an obscene manner at public meetings.
In the video, Viajaylakshmi said, ‘This is my last video and I have been under great mental stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his followers. I tried my level best to maintain equanimity and survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar (leader of a fringe caste outfit) recently.”
Vijayalakshmi, who is of Sri Lankan Tamil descent and grew up in Bengaluru after her family moved to India due to 1984 ethnic riots in Sri Lanka against Tamil, said “ I would like to inform those watching the video just because of I was born in Karnataka Seeman has tortured me a lot.
She added “As a woman I have put up with it to my highest capabilities, I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously.
Vijayalakshmi who has been at the receiving end of organised campaign in social media from followers of NTK for the last few months added “You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans to not let Seeman away from this case, he should never get an anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.’
In 2011, Chennai police had registered a case against Seeman based on a complaint lodged by actor Vijayalakshmi. The actress had accused Seeman of cheating her after promising to marry her.
According to Tamil actress Gayathri Raghuraman, Vijayalakshmi is now out of danger and her condition is stable
