Muslims from Afghanistan and the Rohingyas are now opting to convert to Christianity in a bid to avail the benefits of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Economic Times has reported.
As per the report, government agencies have alerted the centre of at least 25 recent cases of Muslim from Afghanistan converting to Christianity.
As per the chief of an Afghan church in Delhi Adib Ahmed Maxwell, he has witnessed a spike in the number of Afghan Muslims willing to convert to Christianity following the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Also, as the CAA is only applicable for persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar are claiming their country of origin to be Bangladesh while converting to Christianity.
Many of them have been residing in India prior to the cut-off date of 31 December 2014.
It is estimated that around 1.5 to 1.6 lakh Afghan Muslims currently reside in the Delhi NCR region and there are said to be roughly 40,000 Rohingya Muslims all over India.
