A suicide-bombing incident at a Shia mosque at Kandahar in Afghanistan resulted in the death of 41 people on Friday (15 October).

No terrorist group has yet claimed responsibility for this attack.

The latest incident has come right after another suicide attack on Shia worshippers at Kunduz, for which the Islamic State (IS) had assumed responsibility last week.

Around 15 ambulances were witnessed rushing to the mosque in Kandahar after the attack.

“Our initial information shows it was a suicide bomber who blew himself up inside the mosque. We have launched an investigation to find out more,” one of the local representatives of the Taliban was quoted in a report by The Hindu.

Hafiz Abdulhai Abbas, director of health for Kandahar, confirmed that information shows that at least 41 people were killed and 70 others were wounded in the mosque attack.

Eyewitnesses confirmed gunfire taking place alongside the explosions.

The bombers made their way into the mosque by killing three security guards guarding the area.

Moreover, two other terrorists had also detonated their bombs in crowded areas outside the main building where the attack took place.
