Senior Shiv Sena leader and its Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has announced that the party will be contesting the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. The party leaders will also be reaching Kolkata soon, if Raut's tweet is to be believed.

"So, here is the much awaited update. After discussions with Party Chief Shri Uddhav Thackeray, Shivsena has decided to contest the West Bengal Assembly Elections. We are reaching Kolkata soon...!! Jai Hind, জয় বাংলা ! (Joy Bangla)", Raut tweeted.

Incidentally, the Shiv Sena - which severed ties with the BJP over a year ago, had also decided to contest the recently concluded Bihar assembly polls, but without much success.

It was reported that Shiv Sena lost all 22 seats it contested and also got lower votes than NOTA. Incidentally, the party had initially decided to contest 50 seats in the state but only 30 of its candidates filed the nomination papers. Finally 22 were able to contest the polls as eight were disqualified during the document scrutiny.
