After Republic, SC Delivers Big Blow To Lalu: RJD Chief To Be Tried For Criminal Conspiracy

Two days after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was hit by Repubic TV’s exposé which revealed his phone conversations with mafia don Shahabuddin where the latter is heard giving instructions to him from inside the jail, the Supreme Court’s ruling today in the fodder scam case came as another setback for the scam tainted politician.
A Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) court had found Lalu Yadav guilty in fodder scam case. But on November 15, 2014 Jharkhand High Court had ordered dropping conspiracy charge against Lalu after he argued that since he was already being tried under criminal conspiracy in another case, he shouldn’t be tried twice for the same offence. The CBI then moved to the Supreme Court saying that both the cases were different and criminal conspiracy charge against Lalu should stay.
The apex court today agreed with the CBI and ruled that Lalu and other accused the fodder scam case will face separate trials for each case which will be completed in the next nine months.
