After the launch of its first vaccine against Covid-19 Sputnik V, Russia is planning to register another potential vaccine candidate by 15 October, Reuters reported citing Russian news agency TASS.
Citing Russian consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, the report said, the vaccine had been developed by Siberia's Vector Institute. The Institute has already finished early-stage human trials of the candidate last week, the report added.
Russia, earlier on 11 August, registered its first Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V.
Sputnik V, an adenovirus vector-based vaccine, was developed by the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, along with the Russian Direct Investment Fund.
Sputnik V Gam-COVID-Vac Lyo is based on the DNA of a SARS-CoV-2 type adenovirus, a common cold virus. The vaccine uses the weakened virus to deliver small parts of a pathogen and stimulate an immune response.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
