After Sun Sets, Net Rises: 4G Download Speeds 4.5 Times Faster At Night, Reveals OpenSignal Report

A report by a London-based wireless coverage mapping company OpenSignal said that the 4G speeds in India are at least four-and-a-half times faster during the night, reports Telecom Talk.
The report said that around 400,000 smartphone users across 20 cities in India experience an average download speed of 16.8 Mbps against the daily average of 6.5 Mbps.
It also states that Navi Mumbai tops the 4G download speed by scoring 8.1 Mbps in average against Allahabad, which comes last with an average speed of 4.0 Mbps.
Despite staying on top this year, Navi Mumbai had recorded a fall in average speed by around 0.6 Mbps compared to 8.72 Mbps average speed it experienced in 2017.
“Hyderabad has the most consistent speeds, and Allahabad has the highest variance. In all cities, 4G download speeds changed considerably at different hours of the day, the average download speeds being at 4.5 times faster at night,” Technical Analyst at OpenSignal Francesco Rizzato said in a statement.
During the busiest times of the day, the average Long Term Evolution (LTE) speed reduces to 2.8 Mbps, and in Allahabad, it dropped to 2 Mbps. On the other hand, when the network is less jammed, the average speeds boost up to 10.3 Mbps, and Indore receives the highest rate at 21.6 Mbps.
