With the AICTE putting the emphasis on overall social and communication skills for engineering students, the body has partnered with TCS iON to offer an online course to acquire basic professional skills, reports The Times of India.
Engineering students from more than 10,000 technical colleges under the umbrella of AICTE will now have to take the training course which would help enhance their employability.
Noting the lack of soft skills among students in technical colleges, chairman of the AICTE, Anil D Sahasrabudhe said, "Basic professional etiquette such as writing an email, engaging in corporate telephonic conversations and preparing for an interview are missing in most of the students."
In this light, Sahasrabudhe emphasised that the newly launched online course will help in bridging the gap while introducing the students to the required professional skill sets. The 20-hour-long course consists of 11 modules on various professional competencies.
