The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Friday (19 July) has invited suggestions on a consultation paper on the desirability of Know Your Customers (KYC) for set top boxes (STB), The Economic Times Telecom reports.
The regulator had received a reference for the Information and Broadcasting Ministry (I&B) on 27 December last year. The ministry after the requested suggestions from the TRAI on desirability or otherwise of KYC for the STB’s in Direct to Home (DTH) services and the process for the same, an official release said.
Stakeholders are invited to give written comments on the consultation paper by 19 August. It is expected that DTH operators like Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV and other major industry players would participate.
Counter-comments, if any, can be submitted by 2 September by writing to arvind@gov.in or cp.sharma64@gov.in, the statement adds. The complete consultation paper is available here.
