E-commerce giant Amazon has banned many Chinese consumer electronics brands from its platform over fake customer reviews.

The Chinese brands were offering gift cards to customers for writing positive reviews about their products.

Amazon banned the sale of RAVPower power banks, Taotronics earphones and VAVA cameras, three brands under Shenzhen-based electronics company Sunvalley.

Sunvalley, which operates six brands from electronics to home appliances, generated 4.5 billion yuan ($697 million) in sales from Amazon last year.

It should be noted that offering gifts for writing positive reviews is a common practice in Chinese e-commerce space. However, the practice is considered an abuse of the review system by US e-commerce behemoth, reports Gadgets Now.

Earlier this year, Amazon had taken similar action against other Chinese merchants, including an online store backed by China's tech major ByteDance, for violating its rules on fake customer reviews.

Amazon said that it has a 'zero-tolerance' policy towards violations, including asking a friend to leave a review and its latest action has garnered wide public attention in China because of the vendors involved.
