Betting big on Indian prospects and expanding its presence in the country, e-commerce major Amazon's India unit has launched 11 new warehouses (also called fulfilment centres) and has also embarked on the expansion of nine existing facilities, reports Economic Times.
These warehouses, both new and the ones being expanded, are located in Maharashtra, Bihar, Gujarat, Assam, Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.
As a result of these developments, Amazon India's storage capacity will increase by as much as 40 per cent ahead of the crucial festive period.
Amazon has said that these facilities are designed to deliver a smarter, faster, and more consistent experience for its customers and sellers across the country.
The company's official statement said that some of these new fulfilment centres will be operational ahead of Prime Day 2021 which will be held from 26-27 July. Meanwhile, the statement also added that all the new centres will be operational before the festive season, enabling customers to have what they need to be delivered to their doorstep.
With this expansion, Amazon has more than 60 fulfilment centres and over 25 specialised sites dedicated to Amazon Fresh for daily essentials and groceries across the country.
