With its iPhone contract manufacturers Wistron, Foxconn and Pegatron having already been identified as beneficiaries under the Government's $6.7 billion production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for smartphone manufacturing, Tim Cook led Apple Inc is now said to be lobbying with the Government for incentives to shift a part of its iPad manufacturing to India, reports Times of India.

This comes as the Government is readying another Rs 7,000 crore PLI scheme to give a thrust to the local manufacturing of products like tablets, laptops and servers. The scheme is likely to be launched by the end of February. Apple Inc is said to be lobbying for a much larger outlay of Rs 20,000 crore.

It should be noted that the Cupertino, California based technology behemoth has steadily been raising the production of iPhones in India in a bid to reduce the reliance on Chinese manufacturing.

Meanwhile, it should also be noted that India is also readying a Rs 5,000 crore PLI scheme to boost the manufacturing of wearable devices like smartwatches in the nation. The PLI scheme is expected to be announced in the next two months.
