Even as counting is ongoing across the country for the current Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra looks like it will remain with the BJP-Shiv Sena combine, which has established leads on 38 out of the state’s 48 seats.
As the Modi wave continues to hold steady in the state, star Congress candidate from Mumbai Urmil Matondkar is trailing by more than 42,000 votes in the Mumbai North constituency to the BJP’s Gopal Shetty, while Congress candidate from Mumbai South Milind Deora is trailing the Shiv Sena’s Arvind Ganpat Sawant by more than 23,000 votes.
Senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari is also maintaining a lead in the Nagpur constituency.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
