Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth is on a spiritual quest before launching his political party in Tamil Nadu. The actor, who told students of an educational institution last week that he would be able to provide a government like that of the late M G Ramachandran (MGR), is currently at a village near Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, to meet his religious guru, Amar Jyoti.
Under pressure from the media that is hoping for “good sound bytes” from him, Rajinikanth said, “It’s a holy place and those residing here are lucky. I have come here to attract positivity.”
The actor said he was impressed by the beauty of the valley and told the media that he wouldn’t like to discuss politics as he was in Palampur to meditate and seek his guru’s blessings.
The Tamil superstar said he had tried to come to Palampur a number of times before, but he wasn’t successful – until now. Recalling his guru’s visit to his home on Guru Poornima, Rajinikanth said, “Maha Avtar told me to have positive thinking and positive attitude.”
Rajinikanth said he was only meditating at Palampur and nothing else.
His guru, Amar Jyoti, said: “Nation comes first and I hope Rajinikanth will do a lot for the country.”
The guru, however, did not tell the media about the number of days the actor would be staying in his ashram.
Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has also been spotted at the ashram.
Rajinikanth announced on 31 December that he would enter politics. He said he would pursue “spiritual politics”.
Last week, addressing students of an educational institution while unveiling a statue of MGR, the actor said spiritual politics was honest and secular, which would benefit the common man.
