Bengaluru rioters who rampaged on the streets of East Bengaluru over a Facebook post that they deemed derogatory to Mohammed whom they revere as their Prophet, were backed by SDPI the political arm of Radical Islamist Organisation PFI, News18 has reported.
As per the report, SDPI was behind the riots and has also been trying to make inroads into Bengaluru's constituencies which have a sizeable minority population. One of the constituencies on SDPI's mind has been the one represented by Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy, whose nephew allegedly shared a Facebook post which triggered the riots.
The mob which included at least hundreds of rioters attempted to torch the MLAs house. The rioters then turned their attention towards the police personnel and started pelting stones at police vehicles and torched about 15 vehicles. They also attacked a police station and tried to set it on fire.
Over 50 cops have been injured in the attacks.
