Namma Metro on Monday (10 September), set a new record in ridership with 4.25 lakh passengers.
2.28 lakh passengers travelled on the purple line while another 1.96 lakh travelled on the green line. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials have credited the annual flower show that takes place in Lalbagh amon the reasons for the increase in ridership. The average footfall at Lalbagh metro station which is generally around 4,000-5,000 shot up to 8,454 on Monday.
The total revenue generated on Monday touched Rs 1.19 crore due to the reasons mentioned above, Times of India reported.
Namma Metro’s first six-car train was operationalised in July and a second six-car train will be introduced on the purple line by 20 September. Since trial runs and testing is not as much applicable to the second train as it is to the first one, the clearances for the project will be much sooner from the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Typically, the metro trains can commute 975 passengers. But with the introduction of the new cars, it can carry more than 2,000 passengers at once.
All the functional 50 trains is expected to get six coaches by June next year.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
