The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday (15 November) announced its candidates for the by-polls to be held on 5 December.
For the Mainpuri parliamentary seat, the BJP candidate is Raghuraj Singh Shakya. He will contest against Samajwadi Party's (SP) Dimple Yadav.
The other two by-polls in Uttar Pradesh are on the assembly seats of Khatauli and Rampur. BJP candidate Rajkumari Saini will contest against Rashtriya Lok Dal's (RLD) Madan Gopal in Khatauli.
Rampur seat, which fell vacant following the conviction of SP MLA Azam Khan in a hate speech case, has Akash Saxena as the BJP candidate.
While the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress are likely to stay away from these polls, Om Prakash Rajbhar-led Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) declared its candidates for Khatauli and Mainpuri.
BJP's Ashok Kumar Pincha will contest in Rajasthan's Sardarshahar, Kedar Prasad Gupta in Bihar's Kurhani and Brahmanand Netam in Chhattisgarh's Bhanupratappur.
For Odisha's Padampur assembly seat, the BJP candidate Pradip Purohit was expected to file his nomination yesterday but he returned without doing so citing farmers' agitation.
