Reiterating its disagreement with the Kerala Governments’ decision to implement the Supreme Court verdict of allowing menstruating women to enter Sabarimala, Business Line reports that the Kerala BJP has harden its stance.
PS Sreedharan Pillai, the Kerala State president of BJP, slammed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for his undue haste in implementing the Supreme Court verdict. “The Chief Minister is trying to destroy the belief systems of devotees deliberately,” he said. He also accused Congress of staying away from protest and its knee-jerk reaction on the issue.
The state government could amend rules to overcome the crisis, he added. The Supreme Court verdict was without due consideration of facts and history, said Sreedharan Pillai who is also a practising lawyer in High Court.
BJP and RSS had earlier announced massive protests for the restoration of traditions in Sabarimala. A protest march has been organised for five days between 10 October to 15 October, three days before the hill shrine opens for its annual festival. The temple saw a footfall of 5 crore devotees last year.
