In a bid to improve passenger convenience, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has extended the time for reserving tickets on its e-ticket booking portal by 15 minutes till 23.45 hours, reports The Economic Times.
The passengers were earlier allowed to book tickets through e-ticketing till 23.30 hours as IRCTC used to shut down its central server for one hour every day (23.30 hours to 00.30 hours) for maintenance.
With the introduction of the new system, IRCTC's central server would only remain closed for 45 minutes, from 23:45 hours to 00:30 hours.
With this, the passengers can now avail e-ticketing facility for an additional 15 minutes.
IRCTC had recently imported five new HP Itanium servers from Singapore for speeding up its e-ticketing operations. It had also installed two Linux-enabled servers five months ago, substantially raising the booking capacity of e-tickets .
"The induction of new high-speed servers has substantially enhanced the website performance, including log-in time and payment gateway. That is why passengers are getting 15 additional minutes for e-ticketing service," said Dr A K Manocha, chairman and managing director, IRCTC.
