First time in history, Census 2021 would collect data on Other Backward Classes (OBC) The Hindu reported Home Minister Rajnath Singh as saying on Friday (31 August) reviewing the functioning of the Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner.
The Union Home Minister discussed the road map for undertaking the census. It was emphasised that improvements in design and technological interventions be made so as to ensure that the data is finalised within three years after conducting the census. At present, it takes around 7 to 8 years to release the complete data. Use of maps/geo-referencing at the time of house listing is also under consideration.A statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Close to 25 lakh personnel have been trained and engaged for the gigantic exercise and the Ministry will ensure accurate collection of data in the census.
The Home Minister also said that the sample registration system, used for estimating infant mortality rate, the maternal mortality ratio and the fertility rates and the Civil Registration System, especially for birth and death registrations in rural need to be made more efficient.
