Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharama during her press conference on Thursday (26 March) announced a Rs 50 lakh medical insurance cover for healthcare personnel. This insurance cover will be applicable for the next three months during which the Finance Minister hopes the coronavirus pandemic will be brought under control.

Janitors, ward-boys, nurses, paramedics, technicians, doctors and other health care workers would be covered under this scheme. If health professionals while treating Covid-19 patients meet with an accident, they would be compensated with an amount of Rs 50 lakh under the scheme.
The Finance Minister also saluted the efforts by healthcare personnel in containing the pandemic.
The Finance Minister additionally announced that the Ministry is ready with a Rs 1.7 lakh crore package for the immediate help of migrant workers and urban-rural poor.
While assuring that no one will go hungry in the country, the Finance Minister said that the disbursement of the Rs 1.7 lakh crore package under the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana will begin immediately.
