Reliance Jio’s GigaFiber is set to be released in March 2019, India Today reports. The Fibre-to-Home (FTTH) broadband service, was announced earlier in August 2018 and offers high-speed broadband, landline and DTH services.
Reliance is running the trial service for free for thousands of consumers in Delhi and Mumbai. According to the report, people who are involved in setting up the services have confirmed that the service will roll out commercially in March 2019.
The Jio GigaFiber will provide FTTH broadband service to users via fixed lines. Reliance Jio is hoping to connect up to 50 million homes in India. The set up includes a Jio GigaFiber router as well as a Jio GigaTV setup box. The router will be able to provide internet on various devices upto 1GBPS, and the set-top box will be used for television services.
During the trials, Jio had targeted high-rise buildings in Delhi-NCR areas and will bring the technology in selected areas of Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Noida.
While the company is also planning to bring in landline and set-top box services at the same time, the report says the smart home solutions from Jio would take a longer time.
The Jio GigaFiber prices will be revealed only after the commercial launch of the service. While the installation of the Jio GigaFiber is free, Reliance is asking its consumers to pay a security deposit of Rs 4,500, which can be reclaimed when consumers disconnect and deactivate their account.
Under the preview offer, Jio offers 1,100 GB data every month with a speed of 100 MBPS for the first three months.
